"Ultimate Spider-Man" will be ending in February but Disney XD already has a new animated series, "Marvel's Spider-Man," planned for this year. It will have a back-to-basics approach and new merchandising material reveals it will be feature Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales.
The images showcase Stacy as Spider-Gwen and Morales is shown in his "Ultimate Spider-Man" costume. Both were introduced in alternate universes in the Marvel comic books instead of the mainstream series. Morales later became prominent in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon series.
With a stronger focus on web-slingers "Marvel's Spider-Man" is emulating the structure of the final "Ultimate Spider-Man" season. Early seasons focused on Spider-Man as an agent of SHIELD, under the guidance of Nick Fury, and outlandish adventures but the latter seasons dialled these elements back.
The new series is being helmed by "Avengers Assemble" supervising director Philip Pignotti and "Robot Chicken" story editor, Screen Rant reported.. It is stated that their inclusion hint that the series will have a serialized approach in storytelling and will include a good balance of comedy and action.
Peter Parker as Spider-Man has always been known for his quick wit and sense of humor and the same can be said for Ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen. The web-slingers tend to crack jokes in the midst of battle and this element is likely to be featured in the cartoon show.
Venom is also shown in some of the images, We Got This Covered reported. It is also notable that this version of Venom resembles the original, monstrous version when Eddie Brock was the host. In comparison, the Venom in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon has Flash Thompson as the host and is based more on the military "Agent Venom" design.
"Ultimate Spider-Man" airs its series finale on Jan. 7, Saturday. The trailer for the series can be viewed below. No official release date has yet been announced for "Marvel's Spider-Man."
