Alan Rickman's life met an unfortunate end last Jan. 14, 2016 and a lot of his fellow actors paid tribute to him. It has almost been a year since he passed away at the age of 69 and stars are once again paying tribute to him as his first death anniversary draws near. One such star that offered kind words about the late actor is Kate Winslet.
Rickman became known for his role in the "Harry Potter" franchise in which he played Professor Severus Snape. Over both of their long and illustrious careers, Winslet and Rickman have starred together in two major motion pictures. The first time they starred opposite each other was in the 1995 film "Sense and Sensibility" and then they did so again in 2014's "A Little Chaos."
"He was always a great big softy. If there was one word I could use to really describe Al, it would be kind. He was so kind," Winslet recalled to Vanity Fair. "At Al's memorial, Juliet Stevenson told the story of how whenever Al would go out to supper and anyone else would try and pay, he would somehow have phoned ahead or slipped his credit card ahead of the meal so no one even got a look at the check," she added.
Winslet was not the only one of Rickman's co-stars to share memorable experiences with him. His co-star Daniel Radcliffe from the "Harry Potter" franchise also commended the actor for supporting him in his career even though the "Harry Potter" film series had already come to a close. Radcliffe shared his experience with Rickman in a touching and heartwarming post on his official Facebook page.
Rickman's kind gestures did not end with paying for bills when eating out. He was also known to donates tens of thousands of pounds to a number of charities that he supported, according to Cosmopolitan.
Rickman left a total of £100,000 split evenly across four charities. At the time of his untimely death, he donated £25,000 each to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Sponsored Arts for Education, Saving Faces, and the International Performers Aid Trust.
