Bromance remains the buzzword for Korean stars with the start of 2017. In 2016, several Korean actors such as Park Bo Gum and Song Joong-ki starred in commercials which used bromance as a theme, although the two were also in gay rumors.
Jumping on the bromance bandwagon, MBC released photos of its upcoming drama “Missing 9” which would have bromance as its theme. The TV series, which premieres on Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. replacing “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo,” stars Jung Kyung Ho, Choi Tae Joon and Chanyeol of the Korean boy band EXO.
Idol Group Disbands
The three portray Seo Jun Oh, Chi Tae Ho and Lee Yeol, respectively, who belong to the idol group Dreamers which would disband due to an incident. They move separate ways after the disbandment but reconnect after a plane accident that brings them together again, according to Soompi.
Because of the good chemistry and growing friendship among the three actors outside taping, it has helped make their bromance scenes authentic. “Missing 9” would focus on how their past bromance differs from the current times as they attempt to bring back their old friendship while the drama reveals the reason behind their disbandment.
Jet Crashes
The bromance drama’s title is “Missing 9” because it is about nine people who were stranded on a deserted island after their aircraft crashes. It is not only in Korea where bromance sells.
In Taiwan, there is an ongoing romcom titled “Bromance,” starring actors Baron Chen, Megan Lai and Bii. However, the bromance situation stems from Pi Ya Nuo (Megan Lai) having to disguise for 25 years as s man. After she saves Du Zhi Feng (Baron Chen) and his sister, Du Zhi Feng becomes her best friend.
But even outside Taiwanese and Korean TV dramas, there is also high-profile bromance such as the one between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. At the end of 2016, Trump released the bromance letter he received from Putin who promised to improve relations between Washington and Moscow.
