AMD Vega is set to take the PC gaming world by storm as it is expected to arrive in May. The new GPU will be taking on the Pascal-powered GTX 1080.
Recent demonstrations by AMD showed that the Vega GPU is 10 percent faster than the GTX 1080. The Ryzen and Vega combo was used to run the "Doom" 4K test which saw an average of 70 frames per second. NVIDIA's high-end video card can only do around 60 fps.
Unfortunately, the GTX 1080 Ti is still expected to beat or at least be on par with the new Radeon video cards. Sources have told WCCF Tech that the AMD Vega 10 and Vega 11 GPUs will be unveiled in May.
Meanwhile, NVIDIA will reportedly launch their new GTX 1080 Ti at the upcoming PAX East 2017 event that is slated for March. If the GTX 1080 Ti comes first, it may make more sales initially before the Vega rains on their parade.
AMD already released their line of Polaris video cards but they failed to beat the current Pascal ones. The Radeon RX 480 was the top card and it did not even come close to the GTX 1070. Still, AMD may have dominated the mainstream market considering that it is still a larger one compared to the high-end end of the spectrum.
The AMD Vega video cards are expected to take on 4K gaming even with ultra or max settings, Segment Next reported. The GTX 1080 can still hold its own but the framerates for the recent AAA games running at 4K is not as smooth and playable.
There is a possibility that the AMD Vega cards will have cheaper prices but still have better specs than the GTX 1080. The AMD Vega specs, price and release dates may be revealed in May.
