"Switched at Birth" Season 5 will be the last installment for the hit Freeform TV series, so major storylines in relation to Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) could be expected.
The premiere episode will kick off a few years after Bay and Daphne decided to pursue a career in China. When they get back home for a very important reason, the sisters will be surprised to know that so much has changed in their home.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Lizzy Weiss said that most of the family members will have a new job and will also be involved in new relationships. The Kennishes will no longer be as rich as they once were so Bay's mom would have to work as an employee.
But on top of this, Bay's choice will also be revealed. Throughout the past couple of seasons, Bay has always chosen to be with Emmett (Sean Berdy). But no matter what they do, they always end up hurting each other.
And then Travis (Ryan Lane) came along, and he served as the light at the end of the tunnel for Bay. According to Weiss, Bay's choice will be explained. "Did she catch up to Travis' feelings in the time away or did the time away make her realize that Emmett is and always will be The One?" she said.
Weiss added that whatever it is that Bay chooses to do will not impact Berdy's inclusion in "Switched at Birth" Season 5. In Season 4, the actor only had very limited storylines and episodes. This season, Weiss said that Emmett will play a major role in the direction of the show.
Meanwhile, "Switched at Birth" Season 4 previously tackled abortion. In Season 5, they will tackle race relations at the university campus.
In other news, the cast of "Switched at Birth" Season 5 recently taught their fans essential sign languages. While speaking with TV Guide, they shared how they also learned how to sign for the show.
"Switched at Birth" Season 5, episode 1 will air on Freeform on Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. EST.
