A "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off is definitely in the works, and it has a tentative title of "How I Met Your Father." Judging by the title alone, the premise already seems familiar and it will present the show as narrated by a woman explaining to her children how she met their father. Here's everything we know so far about the spin-off series.
"How I Met Your Mother" spin-off story
The premise is basically similar with the original series. This time however, it is going to be narrated in the mother's perspective. The 2014 pilot for the series starred Greta Gerwig in a lead role, which is basically the female counterpart to Josh Radnor's Ted, which Meg Ryan did the narration.
The pilot didn't get picked up for a series order. However, NBC is reviving the project with "This Is Us" writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger leading the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "How I Met Your Mother" executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are attached as executive producers for the spin-off, E! News reported.
Considering the success of "This Is Us" due to the appeal of its comedy and drama mix, fans of the original "HIMYM" series are excited to see what Aptaker and Berger are going to do with the spin-off.
Deadline reports that the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off series will have a different story and will revolve around different characters. It will not be the kind of spin-off fans would expect from the show since it will not be connected in any way from the original series. The only similarity is the storytelling device, where by the story will be narrated by one of the parents.
"How I Met Your Mother" spin-off cast
As stated above, the story will deal with different characters meaning new stars will be on board. No casting rumors and reports have been revealed as of yet.
The original "How I Met Your Mother" starred Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan. The show ran from 2005 to 2014 with nine episodes.
