Actor Finn Jones has risen to popularity due to his portrayal of Ser Loras Tyrell on HBO's "Game of Thrones." His time on the show has ended and will now be appearing next as Danny Rand, aka the Iron Fist, on the Netflix-Marvel show "Iron Fist." The actor now compares the differences between the fans of both series.
"I find the comic book audience a lot more intense than the fantasy one, definitely," Jones told Entertainment Weekly. "There's been a great response when I've been out and about and people realize I'm playing Iron Fist. It's made me realize that loads of people actually read comic books over here and loads of people are into martial arts."
"Game of Thrones" is still relatively new series, despite the books having been around since the 1990s. Marvel comic books, such as the "Iron Fist" series, have been in existence for decades more and had more time to accumulate a much more passionate fan base. Comic book conventions have been active long before "Game of Thrones" had its own major events.
The actor himself is a big fan of the "Song of Ice and Fire" books by George R.R. Martin, the source material for "Game of Thrones," Comic Book reported. Leaving the latter to join "Iron Fist" did mean having to adjust to a new group of fans.
It was also revealed that Jones got the offer to audition for "Iron Fist" the very next day after his last day filming for "Game of Thrones." The script was titled for a show called "Kick" and it was only while reading the script that he discovered it was a Marvel series and that it would be his next big project.
During the interview, he also explained that while the production of "Game of Thrones" has always been shrouded in secrecy, the production on "Iron Fist" is even more intense in this regard. According to the actor, Marvel is "100 times" more secretive about their work that comparing the two would not be fair.
It should be noted that Marvel, even the Netflix shows like "Iron Fist," are owned by Disney. Disney is primarily known for keeping a very tight seal regarding the production details of their projects, particularly about Marvel and Lucasfilm projects such as "The Defenders" and "Star Wars Episode VIII."
"Iron Fist" will premiere on Netflix on March 17. Jones will also reprise the role for "The Defenders" which premieres in the Summer. The official teaser trailer can be viewed below:
