Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motors recently issued a recall order for some of its popular car models due to a problem with the cars power steering. The company added that it will also recall some of its electric cars due to a reported problem about "complete loss of driver power."
Toyota reported that the problem has not resulted into any accident, injury or death. The company issued the recall in order to prevent such mishaps to occur.
Among the major car models included in the recall were 110, 000 units of Camry 2015 model, Camry hybrid, Highlander and its hybrid model and RAV4 SUV's manufactured from 2014-2015.
Toyota added that the recalled cars might have defective circuit boards that may result with the vehicle losing its power-steering feature. The company added that the problem was caused by damage incurred during manufacturing.
However, unassisted manual steering still work perfectly fine but will cause drivers to have difficulty in steering the vehicle especially at low speed. Toyota said that a warning light will light up on the cars dashboard when the problem occurs.
On the other hand, about 2,500 units of RAV4 EV manufactured from 2012-2014 will be recalled. According to Toyota, the cars electric motor assembly can sometimes shift to neutral without prior warning and will cause stop all drive power to the vehicle, according to Reuters. The company traced back the problem to a faulty software program. Toyota said that without power, the car cannot be quickly maneuvered which can increase the risk of accident.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be properly notified by mail and Toyota added that their dealers will fix the problems completely for free, according to USA Today.
