Following the explosive finale of Season 4, fans are eagerly waiting for "Vikings" Season 5 which is expected to feature the aftermath of the battle between Great Vikings Army and the Saxons. In "Vikings" Season 4, Lothbrok brothers came together to avenge the death of their father. They successfully killed King Aelle and forced King Ecbert to end his life. Meanwhile, the brothers expressed wishes that led to differences between them. Bjorn insisted on raiding the Mediterranean and Ivar wanted to continue raiding England. Unfortunately, the clash ends with a murder of Sigurd at the hands of Ivar. In addition, the show featured introduction of warrior bishop called Heahmund, who is expected to play a larger role in Season 5.
Moving on to the next season, spoilers suggest it will focus on Lothbrok brothers. In an interview with Variety, showrunner Michael Hirst revealed what happens next. "Vikings" Season 5 episode 1 begins with Sigurd's funeral. Fans saw how Ivar killed him with an axe by hitting him with it in the stomach.
However, Ivar will reportedly be seen regretting his actions. According to the showrunner, in "Vikings" Season 5 episode 1, Ivar will express his regret and say "he never meant to do it." Unfortunately, Sigurd's mother will lead to a split up between the brothers who once stood together to avenge the death of their father. Lothbrok brothers will reportedly split up into different camps. The upcoming season is expected to be about the conflict between the brothers and what happens after The Vikings have conquered a huge part of England.
In addition, "Vikings" Season 5 will see Heahmund against Vikings. As revealed by the showrunner, Heahmund was a real person. He was one of the well-known warrior bishops, "precursors of the Knights Templar."
Hirst revealed that he is only writing the final two episodes of "Vikings" Season 5. However, he has confirmed that the fifth season will feature "amazing things."
Meanwhile, the network has released a promo video teasing "Vikings" Season 5. It gives a glimpse of Ivar in tears over the death of his brother. Also, Seer warns Largertha of what is to come.
"The consequences of Ragnar's death are not yet played out. You have only seen the beginning of the end. Now prepare yourselves for what is to come," Seer tells Lagertha.
