Avid "Jane the Virgin" fans witnessed the shocking death of Jane's (Gina Rodriguez) husband Michael (Brett Dier) in the recent episode of the CW series. Given Michael's demise, viewers can expect to see beloved characters moving forward with their lives and tackling new challenges in upcoming episodes.
"Jane the Virgin" Season 3 episode 10 featured several heartbreaking scenes that included Michael's sudden death after suffering from complications of an earlier gunshot wound and Jane's reaction to her husband's demise. With the said episode ending in a three-year time jump, viewers can expect the following plot changes and character developments:
Jane's opinions about romance will change
Given the three-year time jump, viewers will see a more knowledgeable and self-reliant Jane in upcoming episodes. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman shared that having to deal with Michael's death changed Jane's opinion about love, fairytales and happy endings.
Michael will appear in flashbacks
Despite Michael's shocking death, the said character will still appear in some of the upcoming "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 episodes. Urman confirmed that they are looking to bring Michael back through flashbacks, however, it is still unclear if the said scenes will be limited to Jane's story or if it will also be part of Rose's, also known as the villainous Sin Rostro, new arc.
Alba will enter into new territory
The back half of "Jane the Virgin" Season 3 will also explore a new storyline for Alba (Ivonne Coll), according to Urman. Jane's grandmother will try her hand at protesting over issues that are close to her heart.
New characters will be introduced, familiar faces will return
Viewers can also expect to see new characters in upcoming episodes, including the return of a few familiar faces. Urman even teased that some these characters will add comedic, as well as romantic moments to the CW series.
Rafael, Xo and Rogelio will be in very different places
Given the time jump, big things have happened to beloved characters namely Rafael (Justin Baldoni), Xo (Andrea Navedo) and Rogelio (Jaime Camil). In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Urman teased of Rafael's release from jail, the alluded wedding and other storyline changes. The showrunner added, "Everyone's in really different places, and that opens up our storytelling in the second half of the season."
