Chinese singer Coco Lee would embark on a tour of China and key cities in North America to promote her latest single “18” which is also the name of her tour. She chose the number because it was the age she began her music career and fell in love.
9 Mainland Cities
Coco Lee said on Tuesday that the North America tour would be held in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto. The China tour would cover Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Xi’an, Hong Kong and Taiwan, CRI reported.
In 2016, Coco Lee won the “favorite performer” in the audience vote portion of the popular musical reality-TV sow “I Am a Singer” on Hunan TV. She sang “A Love Before Time,” the theme song of the hit Chinese movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” at the Oscar Awards in 2001, making Coco Lee – who migrated to the U.S. with her family when she was 9 – the first artists from China to sing on the Oscar stage.
Same Song, Same Dress
It was the same song and even the same red dress that Coco Lee wore at the Oscars in 2001 that she sang and used at the “I Am A Singer’ finals to bag the championship. She also performed “Earth Song” by Michael Jackson in a duet with Ne-Yo, an American R&B singer.
Coco Lee made Chinese TV history by being the first singer outside mainland China to win the “I Am a Singer” competition. Past winners were the rock pair Yu Quan and Han Hong. But contestants from Taiwan and Hong Kong provided excitement and good competition to the show, The Straits Times reported.
In January, Hunan TV was accused of kicking out singer Hins Cheung from “I Am A Singer” allegedly for political reasons.
