The BBC mini-series "The Night Manager" garnered a lot of praise and recognition since it first premiered in the UK in 2016. More recently, the show is at the center of the award-season buzz, particularly in the 2017 Golden Globes where it won three out of four nominations. With this much success under its name, "The Night Manager" truly has enough to merit a second season run.
"The Night Manager" is based on the spy novels written by John Le Carre. It tells the story of former military man Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) who ends up working undercover for the British government to pin down notorious arms dealer Richard Hooper (Hugh Laurie). Both Hiddleston and Laurie won Golden Globes for their respective roles, and the former even became a top pick to play the next James Bond due to how well he is immersed into the world of espionage.
The story itself and how it was translated on the show was executed exceptionally. It also relates to the pressing issue of arms trading and how it fuels war in the Middle East. Moreover, "The Night Manager" Season 2 is necessary because there's still a lot left to say about Jonathan and Richard. Also, fans need to know what happened to Angela Burr and what her next missions would be.
The question now is will there ever be a "The Night Manager" Season 2? The answer boils down to author John Le Carre. The show is based on a story he wrote 25 years ago, and there hasn't been any follow up to it since. He hasn't shown any interest in writing another story, until the show came out and became a critics' darling.
"It's fascinating to hear that Le Carré himself is up for it and considering writing new material for characters he created 25 years ago," Hiddleston told Variety.
Hiddleston and Laurie, however, are up to reprise their roles if Le Carre decides to write new material for another season. When asked if "The Night Manager" Season 2 is likely, Laurie simply said "there's a glimmer of a possibility."
"It's actually not my place to say it because I wouldn't be the one to write it, or construct it, and I don't even know what story, and who would be involved in constructing that story, but I hear rumblings," Laurie told The Mirror.
