Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan visited Nepal and Sri Lanka. Chinese state media warned India that if it interferes with China's relationship with southeast Asia, then Beijing will fight back.
China-India relations are put into focus by the Global Times, saying that India is "treating South Asia and the Indian Ocean as its backyard with a hard-line manner."
The state media said that China is hoping that India will start reconsidering its position in the global market and prioritize China-India bilateral ties.
The paper said, "China hopes India can understand the pursuit of China and regional countries for common development, and be part of it."
"However, New Delhi doesn't share this thinking, instead of seeking to balance China. If such tendencies in India continue, China will have to fight back, because its core interests will have been violated," the paper wrote.
It also said, "This is not what we hope for, but the ball is in India's court."
China is not pleased with India when it permitted the Dalai Lama to enter Delhi to open an international Buddhist conference in Nalanda, Bihar. The Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the Buddhists in Tibet.
Tibet has been struggling for independence from China, saying that they are a separate state and not a part of the mainland.
India is refusing to cooperate with China for the implementation of projects related to the One Belt initiative because of the Kashmir territorial dispute between India and Pakistan.
The state paper believes that India is using the Dalai Lama to show reluctance to China's moves for development in south Asia.
The paper wrote that India is "intensifying its communication with the Dalai Lama, to display its strength and leverage in order to put pressure on or counterbalance Beijing."
According to experts, China has nothing to do with the territorial dispute over Kashmir.
Wang Zhan, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC), China's Parliament, said, "If we go through the Kashmir area, which belongs to India, its a problem of sovereignty for India but now Pakistan has the right to the administration over PoK."
He added, "So, it's a problem between India and Pakistan and doesn't relate to China."
