Reports reveal that "Assassin's Creed" is being developed into a TV series. The news was confirmed by Ubisoft's head of content Aymar Azaizia during a Reddit AMA.
Azaizia did not reveal any specific detail about the "Assassin's Creed" series project, confirmed that it's in development. "It's like the movie guys, we will take our time, to get sure we deliver something we can be proud of, but if you wander [sic] if it's on our plan... YES," Mashable quoted Azaizia as saying.
A spokesperson from Ubisoft also affirmed Azaizia's statement, saying the company is committed to looking for ways to expand their brands, but nothing specific has been finalized yet with respect to "Assassin's Creed."
The short announcement has brought up a lot of questions from fans, especially since an "Assassin's Creed" movie just came out early this year. The movie however, which starred Michael Fassbender, received lukewarm response from viewers and garnered only $240.3 million.
While the movie nailed the costume and production design, as well as the fight scenes, the "Assassin's Creed" movie was lacking in terms of a fluid storyline. While the "Assassin's Creed" series is complex in itself, the movie had a lot going on and a 140-minute run time was enough to cover all aspects of it properly. In this respect, a TV series might be the right outlet to tell the "Assassin's Creed" story.
According to Game Spot, it's like the "Assassin's Creed" TV show would be produced by Ubisoft's film and TV division. There are also rumors suggesting Netflix might pick up the series, considering it has been doing an excellent job on its original shows so far.
It also seems unlikely that the series will follow the Fassbender-starrer, especially since Ubisoft is reportedly working on a sequel to "Assassin's Creed."
Meanwhile, Azaizia was mum on the rumored "Assassin's Creed: Empire," which is supposed to be set in Egypt and have a release date in 2017. Ubisoft did not release a new game in the "Assassin's Creed" series in 2016, and fans are hoping a new one would be released any time soon.
