"The Defenders" trailer is here and it is even more explosive than expected. The upcoming Netflix show brings together Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones as the superhero quartet of Hell's Kitchen.
The Marvel show will also bring back the supporting characters from "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" such as Foggy Nelson, Misty Knight, Patsy Walker, Karen Page, Colleen Wing and Claire Temple.
The show also re-introduces a fan-favorite from "Daredevil" Season 2, but she will transition into a baddie. Elodie Yung is returning as Elektra, Matthew Murdock's past lover and partner in crime. In recall, she died in "Daredevil" Season 2, but her body was taken by The Hand and placed in a concrete coffin. There have been speculations that she will later be revived as the Black Sky. Based on the new "The Defenders" trailer, it appears to be the case.
In a 14-second teaser posted on "The Defenders" Twitter page, we see the villains preparing the coffin Elektra is in. The caption of the clip says a lot about what's up with Elektra: "Oh, great." It clearly means that Elektra's return is not a happy event, and would force Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to band together and #DEFEND.
Elektra's unhinged nature and propensity for violence was seen in "Daredevil" Season 2. Her abilities, character and the fact that The Hand now has control of her makes Elektra a force to watch out for.
Sigourney Weaver was also featured in the trailer. EW previously confirmed that Weaver is playing a villain named Alexandra. "Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She's everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous," showrunner Marco Ramirez teased.
Aside from that, not much has been revealed about Weaver's character. There are speculations that she may be a high ranking member of The Hand, and that Alexandra is simply just a pseudonym to hide her true name.
"Basically the four heroes come up against this really nice woman, who I'm playing. It's been a blast and I really love my character," Weaver said about her role.
