BTS band member Jungkook's song "Euphoria" has smashed records by beating Psy's iconic track "Gangnam Style" on Spotify, amassing more than 292.8 million streams. It is now the most-streamed song by a male Korean solo artist.
"Euphoria" was released as a part of the Bangtan Boy's album "Love Yourself: Answer" in 2018. The song featured a collaboration by BTS leader Namjoon, Adora, Melanie Joy Fontana, Supreme Boi, "Hitman" Bang, Candace Nicole Sosa, and DJ Swivel. The song went on to be featured in the season 1 finale of the HBO series "Euphoria".
The global popularity of Psy's "Gangnam Style" in 2012 paved the way for musicians from South Korea to enter the music scene internationally. The catchy beats and the unique choreography of the song became a chartbuster in many countries, ultimately peaking at the No. 2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position that was the highest for an Asian artist at that time.
In the past, "Euphoria" has smashed quite a few world records. The song became the first and only song by a K-pop artist to successfully spend more than 85 weeks in Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart.
In addition to "Euphoria", another one of Jungkook's songs "My Time" also broke records after staying more than 81 weeks on the Billboard chart, making the vocalist Billboard's longest-charting K-pop Idol. The two tracks also hold the record for being Spotify's top two longest-charting solo tunes in Korean.
In Jungkook's "BE-hind Full Story" interview broadcast by Bangtan TV in February this year, the BTS maknae said that "Euphoria" best portrayed his talent as a vocalist. The singer also called "Euphoria" one of his favorite songs and added that his voice was somewhere in between the current stable one and the earlier baby-like sound at that point. According to Jungkook, his voice was relatively natural in "Euphoria" and he put in his efforts and sentiments in the track.
Fans and the Army have taken to social media and online communities to trend terms such as "Top Male Soloist Jungkook" and "Congratulations Jungkook" to celebrate the achievement.
Incidentally, it took three years for "Euphoria" three years since its release in 2018 to break the world record of Psy's "Gangnam Style".
Last week, Jungkook's rendition of Harry Styles's "Falling" debuted at No. 23 on the Global Top Songs Chart on YouTube with 16.8 million views.
