Ever since "Sherlock" Season 3 came to an end in January, 2014, fans have been eager for the return of the show. However, fans will have to wait a little longer before the Season 4 is launched. But before that, fans will be treated to "Sherlock" Christmas special as confirmed by creator and Steven Moffat. The showmaker has also revealed brief details about the highly anticipated upcoming episode of Benedict Cumberbatch starrer show.
Spoilers and speculations about the next episode of "Sherlock" have been rampant. Speaking at a panel at the South by Southwest conference on Monday, Moffat addressed the rumours. According to Entertainment Weekly, Moffat revealed that the upcoming segment will be set in Victorian London almost 100 years earlier than its current time period. Thus, when Benedict Cumberbatch reprises the role of legendary detective Sherlock, he will take fans back in time.
"The special is its own thing," Moffat said at the panel about the Christmas special. "We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special," he added.
The show creator said that this story is not the part of three-part Series 4. Moffat revealed that he and co-creator and actor Mark Gatiss were compelled to do the story and wanted it to be a special. According to him, this story is a "separate entity on its own."
Meanwhile, Inquisitr reports that Unn Stubbs, the actress who portrays the role of Mrs. Hudson has described the "Sherlock" Christmas special as "brilliant" and "very funny." It is noted that the actress has read the entire script of the much-talked about segment.
Speculations about the upcoming episode taking place in Victorian era emerged when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were spotted filming a scene dressed in Victorian attire. Daily news publication Daily Mirror reported that they were filming "Sherlock Christmas Special" at Gloucester Cathedral.
