Takata Inc.'s trouble is apparently not over yet, Honda motors was the latest car giant to recall around 88,594 2008 Honda Pilot SUVs due to Takata's defective airbag inflator.
According to Truck Trend, although there were neither reported accidents nor deaths on the defective Honda Pilot Airbag inflator, Honda took a step forward to recall the said model to avoid inconveniences in the future. Earlier, Honda motors has already recalled around 5,000 2001 Accords and 10,000 2004 Civics due to the same defect.
Takata Inc. has been the center of the controversy for the past years due to its defective airbag inflators that has a tendency to explode and send shrapnel to passengers that have caused serious injuries and even deaths in previous cases.
It is not only Honda who had pulled out cars due to the faulty airbag inflators, car manufacturers such as Ford, BMW and Toyota has also recalled thousands of vehicles due to the faulty inflators. The root of the defect was finally drilled down to corrosion due to humidity, MotorTrend reported.
As early as 2001, Honda have recalled some of their CR-V, Element, Odyssey, Pilot and Ridgeline Trucks and SUVs as well some of their Acura MDX models due to a manufacturing defects. The recall was applied to cars manufactured from 2001 to 2009 and some of the 2009s Element models.
The airbag inflator manufacturer has previously expressed their sentiments and apologies to the public with regards to their defective airbag inflators. They also issued an official statement saying that they will double their efforts to remanufacture new airbag inflators to address the issue. Other airbag inflator manufacturers also expressed their willingness to help in addressing the issue.
