A family of four reported missing since May 2014 in Alaska was found dead by police on Saturday.
Four bodies along with a dead dog and a handgun was discovered just off a trail in a rural area near the said family's home. Police said that they could not give any comment regarding the deaths, but there is no reason to believe that anyone else was involved on what had happened.
According to ABC News, the bodies that were identified belonged to Rebecca Adams, 23; her boyfriend Brandon Jividen, 38; as well as her children, Michelle Hundley, 6, and Jaracca Hundley, 3. The four of them lived on a peaceful street on the peripheries of Kenai-a fishing community about 65 miles southwest of Anchorage.
NBC News reports that Adams last contacted her relatives on May 27. She spoke to her sister Lanelle Adams. Her sister told NBC affiliate KTUU that Adams sounded distressed and that she got off the phone quickly and she cannot tell what was wrong. Since then, Adams' family did not hear anything from her.
During that time, Adams' relatives said that it seemed the family left without packing. The couple's two vehicles were left parked still outside their home and they had not paid their rent for the month of June. Their dog was nowhere to be found as well.
Kenai police Lt. Dave Ross said that the bodies have not been officially identified by a coroner yet, but the investigators have all the necessary indication that the bodies belong to the missing family.
Ross said the gun found with the dead bodies matched the serial number from a box found in the family's home. Other items reported missing from the residence was discovered as well, and the authorities found a dog dead at the scene. It appears that the family died where they were found, Ross said. He added that the investigation is ongoing and "very much active."
The bodies were discovered late Saturday night after a passerby driving on a trail spotted clothing and human remains and called the police.
Authorities conducted massive search operations using airplanes, helicopters, and dogs when the family went missing. The operations covered and extensive area around the family's home. At one point, even, divers searched the pond near the family's home. In this search, about twenty agencies participated.
The families of the deceased released a statement that they are for a fact saddened by the result of the yearlong searches, but they would comment on it no further.
