"No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, you are beautiful," said Michelle Obama at the Black Girls Rock! 2015 Awards in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday.
Other important personalities spotted at the event included singer Erykah Badu, and actress Cicely Tyson. Selma director Ava DuVernay, educationist Nadia Lopez and Dr. Helene D. Gayle, CEO of CARE USA, were also present.
"Black Girls Rock!" is the name of an organization founded by Beverly Bond to uplift young black girls, in finding positive and reaffirming images of themselves in the world.
The first lady gave an emotional and awe-inspiring speech, asking all black beauties to concentrate on education and development of the society.
"There is nothing more important than being serious about your education," the first lady said.
Many people term a woman "bossy" if she takes charge and leads, said Obama. She also talked about overcoming fears and rise up to the challenges in life, International Business Times cited the First Lady.
The importance of confidence of the black girls to achieve full potential in becoming true and important citizens was mentioned by Obama.
"I am so proud of you. My husband, your president, is so proud of you," she said in her speech, according to The Root.
Meanwhile, an elated Bond said that the presence of the first lady at the event was a pointer to the fact that her group has grown immensely since its beginning in 2006.
"It's incredible that we are doing something that is being recognized by the first lady," Bond said.
Meanwhile, Will Smith gave an audacious tribute to his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith. He tearfully accepted that she was a tremendous inspiration and the power behind their 20-years-old relationship.
"In that brief moment my heart jumped for a second and I started to imagine what my life would have been like without that woman," he said.
A perfect evening that lasted four hours was enough to deliver a beamish attitude to many cheering black girls in the audience.
