Ubisoft unveiled the new "Assassin's Creed Chronicles" trilogy, a 2.5D platformer title which in fact is "Prince of Persia" but with a different skin.

A lot of players were asking the developers to bring back the PoP franchise but Ubisoft was adamant and strongly focused on Assassin's Creed games. Instead of risking their investment by bringing back a series that is more than a decade old by now, they opted for a safer route.

Hands-on experience with the chronicles trilogy confirms that it is none other than the title made the publisher so popular in the first place. Everything including the movement of the character, the stealth elements, combat and level design is similar to the first "Prince of Persia" title.

Originally, this bundle was packed as an exclusive addition for season pass owners who purchased "Assassin's Creed Unity". However, due to numerous bugs and glitches, the developers were forced to discontinue the pass and focus on fixing the game.

"Assassin's Creed Chronicles" is now a trilogy and the game will take place in three different regions - China, India and Russia. The first episode set in China debuts on Apr. 22 which follows the story of Shao Jun, reports Polygon.

The second episode set in India takes places in 1841 and features Arbaaz Mir as the lead character. The story is based on the Brahman, graphic novel. Similarly, the third episode which takes place in Russia is based on "The Fall and the Chain" novel featuring Nikolai Orelov as the central character.

While the setting and the graphics are new, players who have played "Prince of Persia" for years ever since its first edition will find themselves at home, adds Eurogamer

The trilogy will be a nostalgic visit into the past and a worthy platformer to try until Ubisoft announces a new "PoP" game again.

"Assassin's Creed Chronicles" was launched on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
