An alligator has been spotted in a river at Western Pennsylvania area. The gator may never be found but the search still continues.
The Pennsylvania law enforcement chief said that the search will keep on going to find the reptile. Nobody else has reported to have seen the said gator since the two persons that reported to have spotted it in the Monongahela River in Belle Vernon on Tuesday, according to John Hartman, Southwest Regional Police Chief.
According to ABC News, the initial report that was received by the local police was that a seven-foot long alligator was spotted by two people near a boat launch.
Hartmann explained that the reptile could have been an exotic pet which was released by the owner or escaped into the river. It is also possible that the reptile hitched a ride on a barge from a warmer area down South.
Local police already consulted with Pittsburgh Zoo authorities and the United States Coast Guard to know if the reptile will be able to survive in the river since it is relatively cold, disclosed Hartmann. Several calls came in their station from other people saying that they think they saw the reptile after the media started reporting it, Yahoo! News reported.
"There have been no additional sightings or reports since the first two people spotted it," Hartman said.
The U.S. Coast Guard started their own search in the said river and its surrounding areas but found nothing.
Experts advised that the reptile would not be able to live in the cold environment all year but it is possible that the cold-blooded animal would be able to survive some period of time since the river is not totally frozen, Hartmann disclosed.
