"The Following" Season 3 Episode 11, titled "Demons," airs Monday, May 4 on FOX. This week's new episode picks up from the main event in Episode 10, which shows Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) has died. Purefoy talked about the death and answered questions on the finality of Joe's ending.

In "The Following" Season 3 Episode 10, Joe Carroll dies by lethal injection. Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy watches as his nemesis succumbs to his mortality. In the end of the episode, a disturbed Hardy raises a glass for Joe.
"I think a lot of people thought [the writers of 'The Following'] were lying. No, no; he died." James Purefoy told TVLine in response to questions on the finality of what viewers saw in the previous week's episode.
Purefoy is proud of how his character met death in the eye in "The Following" Season 3 Episode 10. The actor said it is one of his favorite episodes, particularly because it took Hardy and Carroll to a different level.
"[The Joe-Ryan dynamic] becomes a very textualized and multileveled relationship, which is such a lovely thing as actors and particularly with the legend that is Kevin Bacon," Purefoy said in the same interview, adding that Joe will re-appear in the next episodes.
"Ryan continues to descend into insanity as visions of Joe haunt him," reads the FOX release on "The Following" Season 3 Episode 11. This week's new episode still includes Theo, portrayed by Michael Ealy.
