The Portokalos are coming back. The much awaited and anticipated sequel of 2002 comedy "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" has got a release date of March 25, 2016. The cinema-goers are left confused as the movie is clashing with Warner Bros' "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice."
The Universal project will see all the lead actors of the hit comedy returning for the sequel. While Nia Vardalos is returning as the lead star and screenwriter, Kirk Jones will be directing the project featuring the entire returning cast of favorites, The Hollywood Reporter stated.
The script of the sequel of $368 million grossing romantic comedy is still under developing stage and is expected to see a big family yet undisclosed secret which, will lead to an even bigger wedding, bringing the Portokalos family together again in the second installment.
Rita Wilson and her husband Tom Hanks will once again produce the project along with Gary Goetzman, Variety reported. The 2002 hit comedy showed still-unmarried-at-30 Toula, played by Vardalos, falling in love with a teacher Ian Miller, played by John Corbett. It is still unknown whether the Toula and Ian will remain the main focus of the movie or they will go in backdrop to introduce new young characters.
The announcement of the release date of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2" came as a surprise as the date is already set for highly anticipated superhero movie, "Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice." It is also rumored that the highly talked about sequel of Warner Bros' Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill starrer "Man Of Steel" is also set to hit the screens on the same day, though, the news is not yet confirmed.
