Rebekah Aversano has met for the first time Richard Norris who received her dead brother Joshua's face in a life-changing face transplant.
The touching meeting was filmed for a forthcoming episode of 60 Minutes Australia which will be broadcast on 31 May.
Joshua Aversano was killed in a car accident back in March 2012 and his face was donated to 39-year-old Richard Norris who was left severely disfigured after he mistakenly shot himself in the face 15 years ago, according to BBC News.
Richard had undergone 30 surgeries to restore his features, Metro reported. But to no use.
Doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Centre took 36 hours to finish the surgery which involved the transplant of nerves, teeth, tongue muscles and a jaw.
Richard Norris and Joshua's sister Rebekah met in his house in USA for the very first time previously this year. Rebekah in the touching meeting said that this is the face she grew up with.
After Joshua's gruesome death, the Aversano family think that they made the correct decision by donating Joshua's face to help another person.
Gwen, Joshua's mother, said that they can certainly see their son in him. She further said that some of the facial features would certainly be their son, so they could see similarities, very much so. They are happy they have been able to help Richard Norris, despite the fact that they had such a tragic loss, they were able to give someone else the benefit of their son.
