Google is making sure that Android M will be among the major draws of the Nexus 2015 on release date. And to lure in more buyers, the upgraded operating system has been recoded to boost the battery life of the upcoming Google flagship.

The Lollipop replacement, according to Phone Arena, will increase the battery standby time on a device by more than 500 hours. This finding is based on the test conducted by German blog site ComputerBase.de, which showed that a Nexus 5 running on Android M will see idle battery time increase of up to 533 hours.

Comparatively, a similar-specced Nexus 5 was observed running on Android 5.1.1 and delivered only energy juice, in totally unused state, of no more than 200 hours. As can be observed, the amount of battery power, thanks to Android M, significantly jumped, twice over than what was seen with the Lollipop-fired up Nexus 5.

Doze

The amazing improvement was wholly credited to Doze, one of the new Android M components that Google had introduced via the 2015 I/O two weeks ago. As explained by the tech giant, the Doze effect will immediately kick in as soon as the OS detected that a device is idle, the screen is off and not in charging state.

In order to trim down battery use, Doze will monitor app activities and prevent them from doing anything at all such as connecting to network or performing background tasks. The idea is to put device applications into deep slumber that will minimize or prevent power leaks.

But the best part of the feature is these same apps will immediately spring into action when users decided to wake up their devices. This function is in conjunction to another fresh Android M feature - Tap To Wake that will be on board with the operating system.

The ComputerBase.de experiment only proved that Doze works amazingly like charm even in beta version of Android M and should further showcase the mighty improvement it packs come the actual launch of the OS later in the year.

As in previous cases, Android M is seen to unbox with the Google Nexus 2015 flagship that circulating rumors said will be served in two models - the 5.2-inch LG Bullhead and the 5.7-inch Huawei Angler. The likely release date for the twin devices is between October and November 2015.
