While Stephen Curry will never look like the best player in the world, or on the court for that matter, as long as he is sharing the floor with LeBron James, he will gladly take second billing for a chance to win the much-coveted Larry O'Brien trophy anytime.
Truthfully at this moment, there is no way that he can surpass, or much less match, what James had so far done for the Cleveland Cavaliers' cause.
For sure, MVP's are supposed to be the best player on a given series. And as far as the 2015 NBA Finals is concerned, it surely looks like LeBron is the best player playing the best games for his team all through five games.
Even the media is suggesting that the King should be named Finals MVP even if the Cavs lose, as per ESPN. It is something that has happened only once before when Jerry West claimed the award in the 1969 finals.
In Game 5, LeBron unloaded his second triple-double in this year's finals with 40 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists, again overshadowing Curry's performance of 37 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
But it was Curry who broke apart the tight game during crunch time to steal the crucial victory for the Golden State Warriors.
MVPs lead their teams to victory foremost, and then lead them in all statistics when they have to. Curry is now rolling his team to the title, as Pro Basketball Talk's Kurt Helin said, and he is pouring out the crucial points in stretches when the team really needs them the most.
When it comes to victories, no team can be crowned as champions until they win four games. MVP or no MVP, that fourth win is all that matters to Curry right now.
