The governments of China and Poland are set to sign a cooperation agreement regarding the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, caixin.com reported on June 16, Tuesday.
Polish authorities said that they have drafted a memorandum of cooperation with China involving the country's railway and seaport construction projects, and the document is currently awaiting confirmation by the Chinese government.
Maciej Lachowski, an official of Poland's Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, said that the memorandum will cover the railway projects that connect China's Chengdu, in Sichuan Province, and the Polish city of Lodz, as well as Suzhou, in Jiangsu Province, and Poland's capital city Warsaw.
The other sites for future development also include the Polish harbors at Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Swinoujscie.
The Polish authorities said that the draft agreement shows the intention of both countries to enhance cooperation and strengthen their bilateral ties. The two countries have agreed to exchange views and discuss their strategic plans, as fundamentally required for future cooperation.
Marek Wejtko, adviser to the Polish Ministry of Economy, said that they are expecting that the document will be signed between June 17, Wednesday, and June 19, Friday, when Grzegorz Schetyna, the head of Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visits China.
The Globe Times reported that China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his counterpart, Schetyna, will co-host the first plenary session of the China-Poland Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee during the Polish minister's visit.
Poland will be the next European country to sign a "One Belt, One Road" cooperation agreement, following Hungary which signed a cooperation agreement with China earlier this month.
