Microsoft has introduced a new Surface Pro 3 model over the weekend. Consumers have two options: lower end CPU with twice as much local storage, or a higher end CPU with half as much storage.
The new edition to Surface Pro 3 family sports a Core i7-4650U processor that operates at 1.7GHz, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 5000 graphics, and 128GB space storage that costs $1,299. With the same price, Microsoft also offers a lower end CPU with Core i5-4300U processor clocked at 1.9GHz, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD 4400 graphics, but the storage boosts to 256GB, Tech Spot reported.
Previously, Microsoft offers Core i7 CPU that only appears in the two most expensive Surface Pro 3 models. For users who crave for more space, they will have to choose a tablet 256GB capacity for $1,549 or 512GB for $1,749.
Microsoft's new tablet model is likely dedicated to people who would choose the power of a Core i7 over a boost storage capacity, while the Core i5 version runs on a “Turbo Boost” to 3.3GHz. The Core i7 CPU has more cache to store and read data because of its higher clockspeed.
The company suggests that 128GB is enough since it also provides a microSD card slot, and a full size of USB 3.0 port, both can be an additional storage for different types of files. It also suggests that tablet with less storage capacity make sense since there are a lot of online streaming services and cloud storage providers, reducing the need to have more local storage, according to Maximum PC.
