Microsoft reported on July 1 that its Xbox Live service was down. The connectivity issue makes it very hard for users to login into their Xbox Live account. The problem was reported to affect both Xbox One and Xbox 360 users.
Several Xbox Live users vented their frustration on various social media outlets. Microsoft immediately released a statement saying, "Xbox member, are you having issues signing in to Xbox Live? Our team is engaged and investigating this issue right now and we will not stop till everything is running smoothly again!"
The issue was first reported around 8:00PM UK time. While not the entirety of Xbox Live users were affected, those who were able to login experienced problem in using the Friends list function. Several users also complained about the services' very low network latency.
According to The Express, while trying to login during the outage, the system gives out error 0x87DD0019. This led many users to suspect that the Xbox Live server is under attack. A distributed denial-of-service attack usual clogs system server which in turn could led to the Xbox error 0x87DD0019.
Xbox Live servers has been taken down several times in the past. Most notable of this was the DDoS attack during Christmas Day in 2014 carried out by the notorious Lizard Squad.
On the other hand, the problem only occur when users are trying to login into their online account. During the outage, users who were already logged in did not receive such problems. However, logging out and logging in back again could trigger the error.
As of this writing, Microsoft claims that the problem has been taken care of, according to Venture Beat.
