"Shenmue 3" developer YS Met recently announced that the company will also release a PlayStation 4 physical disc for the upcoming game.
The recent update on the Kickstarter page of "Shenmue 3" shows that backers who contribute $60 to the campaign will have the chance to get a copy of the game via a PlayStation 4 physical disc. When "Shenmue 3" was announced at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the game was initially planned to be digitally released for Windows PC and PlayStation 4 for $29. A physical disc was available for the Windows PC and costs $60.
"Shenmue 3" is currently the most ordered video game in Kickstarter. The recently released update on the game's Kickstarter page reads, "This is one of the most requested items on the list, and we are very happy to be able to include the Shenmue 3 PS4 Kickstarter Backers Edition as a Reward."
Aside from receiving the Backers Edition copy of the game, backers of "Shenmue 3" will have the chance to participate in surveys and help influence the direction of the game, according to Geek Snack.
The "Shenmue 3" Kickstarter campaign was able to reach its $2 million fundraising goal in just nine hours after it was launched, setting a new Kickstarter record in the process. The "Shenmue 3" Kickstarter campaign currently has $4.3 million pledges coming from 50,000 backers. The campaign will officially end on July 17.
"Shenmue 3" is expected to be released in December 2017. The last "Shenmue" game was released in 2002 while the first one was released in 1999. "Shenmue" producer and director Yu Suzuki will head the development of "Shenmue 3."
