The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly in desperation mode as they are seriously considering JaVale McGee as a possible replacement for their former defensive anchor DeAndre Jordan, who bolted out of the team to Dallas.
The 26-year-old NBA All-Defensive First Teamer agreed to a four-year, $80-million deal with the Mavericks last week and that left Doc Rivers and Chris Paul without a starting center to begin their supposed title run this October.
Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Clips are currently taking a closer look at the 27-year-old free agent as a potential candidate to fill the massive shoes of Jordan.
While the only similarity of both players seems to be their penchant for dunking the basketball, Rivers would settle on McGee's length on defense and his leaping ability on offense to become the secondary target of Paul's crisp alley-oop passes behind resident superstar Blake Griffin.
McGee would have a big chance to revitalize his career with a true contender if ever Rivers decides to sign him. The former Nevada standout was traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Philadelphia 76ers last February but only played six games in half a month before being waived.
As for the Clippers, getting McGee would be a safe and low-cost temporary solution to their DeAndre debacle. The seven-footer may be able to replicate some of Jordan's functions albeit at a lower level, but he can still be effective especially with Paul's orchestration.
While McGee is widely-known for his inconsistency, Uproxx indicated that Paul has the propensity to improve the game of erratic teammates in the past.
Paul made Tyson Chandler a household name during their stint in New Orleans and the point guard was also deemed responsible for making Jordan a great rim finisher during his seven-year career.
