Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have a bad reputation because of his past brushes with the law, which explains why he was booed by the crowd in Las Vegas during his May 2 "Fight of the Century" versus Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao.
However, he is also a generous trainer as how Ashley Theopane, a boxer who is his protégé, discovered, reports TMZ. Theopane got a call from his mentor while he was just relaxing at home. Mayweather told him to go to a dealership.
Without much ado, Mayweather gave to Theopane the keys to a fully loaded 2015 Chrysler 300. The gift was timely because the boxer, part of the Money Team, said he really needed a car. The vehicle was "Money May's" reward to Theopane for winning five consecutive fights which upped his record to 38-6.
The $30,000 cash value of the car is just peanuts to Mayweather who earned $230 million from his bout with Pacquiao. His earnings the last 12 months made the unbeaten American boxer the highest-paid celebrity the past year, followed by Pacquiao.
Besides the car for his protégé, Mayweather also bought a Jeep Wrangler, reports Autorevolution. The vehicle was a gift also to son Zion. The father-and-son team picked the off-roader at The Auto Firm. Besides the tag price of about $33,000, Mayweather spent another $100,000 on enhancements.
Of course, for himself, Mayweather splurges when it comes to cars. His collection include a Ferrari Enzo, three Bugatti Veyrons and several Rolls-Royces.
In contrast, Pacquiao recently sold some of his houses in the U.S. and this week pulled out his four children from an expensive international school near Metro Manila and enrolled them in a school in his hometown General Santos City. It is not because he became poorer due to his loss to Mayweather
