Veteran team Everton FC is set to face newcomer Watford FC in the opening day of the 2015-2016 Premier League season on Saturday, August 8. The match is scheduled to be held at the Toffees home field of Goodison Park in Walton, Liverpool.
Roberto Martínez's squad had been struggling as of late, losing four and drawing one of their last six games, including friendlies. Their last game was a 0-2 friendly defeat in the hands of Sky Bet Championship club Leeds United FC, a team playing in England's second-tier professional league, on August 1, via Goal.
Prior to that, they also lost the Premier League Asia Trophy final to Arsenal, 1-3, and had a goalless draw against Stoke City during the semifinal of the said friendly tourney.
Watford is one of three teams promoted to the primary league from the Championship after they placed runner-up to Football League champs AFC Bournemouth. The third new team from the secondary league is Norwich City FC.
The Hornets almost beat Bournemouth for the Sky Bet title, but Sheffield Wednesday forced them into a 1-1 draw during their last game to come up short, as per BBC Sport.
Manager Quique Flores is eager to show his team's wares in the Premier competitions beginning with a stable team in Everton.
