An American Psychological Association (APA) task force has released a new report in which it concluded that violent video games can increase aggression in the player and decrease their caring about others' feelings. However, the APA also noted that there is not enough solid evidence that links first-person shooter games to violent crimes committed with real guns.

Researchers have conducted studies related to video games and violent behavior for over two decades. More studies are needed to learn if there is a link between digital entertainment and criminal acts.

The task force examined 170 studies on video game violence and consulted experts, according to CNN. They discovered some gaps in the research. Those included issues such as aggression in male and female gamers, risk factors such as depression, and the video games' effects on children.

The APA found a clear link between video games and aggression. However, it noted there is not a single risk factor that always causes a person to act with aggression or violence, according to The Express Tribune.

APA's task force recommended ratings that show various levels and kinds of violence. It also suggested that developers design age-appropriate games.

Some groups disagree with the APA's new report. When the task force was announced two years ago, 230 researchers wrote the APA a letter stating their concerns.

For instance, the average age of the task force members is 62, a group that mostly opposes video games. The report also did not define the term "aggression."

Chris Ferguson, Stetson University's department chair of technology, stated that the study is the first of its kind. It claims a link between video games and violence.
