Holding off a strong challenge from Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Terminator Genisys," the film "Go Away Mr. Tumor" remained the leading title in the Chinese box office last week.
Produced by Wanda Pictures, the film tells the story of popular Chinese cartoonist Xiang Yao (known as Bearton or Xiong Dun) who died of brain tumor in Nov. 2012 at the age of 30.
Research outfit Entgroup said that for its first full week, the film took $36.11 million for a cumulative total of $67.94 million. Its showings and admissions tallied up to 244,817 and 6.67 million, respectively.
"Go Away Mr. Tumor" stars Bai Baihe and Daniel Wu, and is helmed by Han Yan.
Meanwhile, "Terminator Genisys" came on the second place, taking $27.4 million from its 70,020 and 4.58 million showings and admissions.
Coming behind the latest franchise of the Terminator series is the Chinese remake of "Bride Wars." The film, which includes Angelababy and Ni Ni in its cast, has pulled in $24.22 million from its 165,560 showings and 4.5 million admissions.
The fantasy epic "Monster Hunt" still comes strong as it took another $18.68 million for a total of $375.20 million after 39 days. The firm is the first-ever Chinese movie to earn over 2 billion yuan ($310 million) at the box office.
Completing the top five films of last week is the Chinese ensemble piece "Cities in Love," which took $8.12 million in its first five days. The movie also starts Bai.
The other half of Chinese box office's top 10 include "Monkey King: Hero Is Back" ($5.57 million), "Roco Kingdom 4" ($4.14 million), "Pancake Man" ($2.57 million), "To the Force" and "Detective Gui."
