Fall Out Boy won the Best Rock Video award for "Uma Thurman" at the MTV Video Music Awards. The fans have always wondered what the "Kill Bill" actress thought about FOB naming a song after her.
In an interview with Billboard, Pete Wentz explained that they asked Thurman's permission to use her name. Although they did not know how the actress felt about the song, he shared that it was "very cool" of her to give them the green light.
When asked why they picked Thurman out of all the actresses in Hollywood, Wentz explained that they have always been fascinated with her movie choices. He said that Thurman had the tendency to pick quirky, yet powerful roles.
"If you grew up at all in the '90s, it's hard not to crush on a woman like Uma Thurman," he said.
As reported by Rolling Stone, Fall Out Boy took home the coveted Moonman statue for Best Rock Video for "Uma Thurman." The band was up against Hozier ("Take Me To Church"), Florence + the Machine ("Ship To Wreck"), Walk the Moon ("Shut Up and Dance") and Arctic Monkeys ("Why'd You Only Call me When You're High?").
When asked about the concept for the music video, Wentz explained that they got the idea from Bud Light's Super Bowl commercial. He said that they wanted to give fans a sneak peek of what the group is like backstage. He added that they had a lot of fun conceptualizing the video and creating a version of themselves "on steroids."
