Just a little over a week removed from what was a sure-fire classic, TakeOver: Brooklyn, NXT looked to ride the momentum and deliver another awesome night of matches.
This time, the developmental brand focused its attention to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic; a tournament in honor of the late WWE Hall of Famer.
The tournament began with a first-round match between the longest-reigning NXT Tag Team Champions in history, The Ascension, and the new powerhouse duo of Rhyno and Baron Corbin.
As expected, both hard-hitting teams exchanged bombs throughout the match, until Rhyno hit Konnor with the Gore to seal the victory.
Another exciting first-round match showcased former NXT Champion Neville and Solomon Crowe, against the rising pair of Jason Jordan and Chad Gable.
Jordan and Gable took charge in the early going, before the Man that Gravity Forgot rose up to the occasion and executed his trademark aerial assaults. Ultimately, the high-flying risks didn't pay off, and allowed Chad Gable to hit the Grand Amplitude on Solomon Crowe for the win.
As a side note, two of the hottest commodities in the independent scene are scheduled to make their NXT debut next week, as Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa will face the team of Bull Dempsey and Tyler Breeze.
In singles matches, Apollo Crews, who left a big impression following his remarkable first appearance at the recent TakeOver, against British grappler, Martin Stone. Crews made his presence felt, once again, with his signature gorilla press slam, before ending things with a standing moonsault.
Also, a pair of Divas matches transpired with Alexa Bliss defeating Blue Pants via the Glitz Flip and Sparkle Splash; and feisty redhead Eva Marie winning over Billie Kay after converting a Sliced Bread No. 2.
