The Detroit Pistons have lost Greg Monroe and are looking to run a more streamlined offense. Could Perry Jones III fit the new look?
The Pistons blog, Piston Powered recently featured some trade proposals to improve the team. At this point, it is considered speculation but it won't be surprising if they actually happened, or at least considered.
One of the Detroit Pistons biggest weaknesses was spacing. They clogged up their offense when they had Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond and Josh Smith as their frontline.
They managed to get rid of Josh Smith and they had no choice but to let Greg Monroe walk. But now they need some scoring punch to support Andre Drummond as they're awfully thin at the power forward spot.
The Boston Celtics have a different dilemma: "Boston is congested in the frontcourt and the backcourt, but is comically thin on the wing," Piston Powered pointed out. "Whether it is a lack of size - Avery Bradley - or a lack of shooting (and general professional basketball talent) - Evan Turner - Boston has no ideal players on their roster to fill the role."
The trade proposal has Reggie Bullock, Cartier Martin and a second round draft pick in exchange for Perry Jones III.
Reggie Bullock can fill in the need for the Celtics and Jones will take the power forward spot. Perry Jones? Really?
Few might remember, but Jones was one of the top high school prospects in 2010 along with Kyrie Irving, Harrison Barnes and Tobias Harris. He was even projected as a top five pick in 2011 but he chose to stay another year at Baylor because he failed to live up to his potential.
Remember these words from Grantland in November 2014 when Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant were both injured and Jones became the team's top scorer for a stretch.
"There might not be five other players in the NBA who have a more perfect basketball physique than Perry Jones," the article recalled. "Last summer, Durant declared him the best athlete in the league, and meant it."
OKC has been notorious for not making full use of their talent base as Scott Brooks is an old-school, star reliant coach. That may have resulted in some departures from the team like James Harden or the Pistons' own Reggie Jackson who incidentally, is a good friend of Jones.
A trade that will solve both teams' conundrums, with relatively low risks. Why not?
