New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said that Eric Gordon could be a good "weapon" in 2015-16, especially considering he isn't rehabbing anything.
Gentry observed that at the end of last year, Gordon was shooting the ball as well as any two-guard in the league and shot 44 percent over the last 30-something games.
Gordon finished last season shooting 44.8 percent from beyond the 3-point area, which is good enough for second in the league and ahead of sharp shooting 2014-15 MVP Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
The Pelicans coach noted that his shooting could be a big weapon for them on top of other things Gordon can do, according to The Times-Picayne.
Eric Gordon's time with the New Orleans Pelicans has has been marred by injury and many fans regret the decision by Pelicans general manager Dell Demps for matching a four-year, $58 million dollar offer sheet Gordon signed with the Phoenix Suns in the summer of 2012.
Gentry was head coach of the Suns when Phoenix tried to sign Gordon away from New Orleans.
Gordon's injuries may have kept him from living up to that contract but he showed last season how valuable he can be to the Pelicans.
The shooting guard was once the centerpiece of the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Gordon had lost 10 pounds since last season and he appears to look fit in preparation for the start of the NBA season.
He believes that the very fast paced system Gentry is implementing will be able to utilize his skills, NOLA.com noted.
In June, Gordon decided to play-out the final year of his deal that will pay him $15.5 million for upcoming season instead of pursuing free agency.
