Dean Israelite's upcoming action sci-fi film "Power Rangers" is set to start its production next year.
According to the Directors Guild of Canada (via YVRShoots), the film production is under the code "SHIRT" and is expected to begin in Vancouver on Jan. 18, 2016 and end on Apr. 12; however, the said dates are subject to change.
While the film's planned release is still in 2017, it could be altered by the film's production schedule as well as the release of major films, according to Screen Rant. The publication mentioned that fans will see big title films next year, such as Chris McKay's action-comedy animated film "The Lego Batman Movie," James Gunn's Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2," and Patty Jenkins' DC "Wonder Woman."
Fans will be seeing the titular hero team fight their main adversary, Rita Repulsa. Repulsa was also the first antagonist in the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" television series. She is known to have her iconic crescent-topped staff, which is capable of giving her massive power and ability to create humanoid and robotic figures.
"Power Rangers" follows a group of teenagers who can morph into superheroes who wear colored costumes tasked to fight monsters that threaten Earth, along with the giant robots called Zords. The Zords can be summoned to battle colossal aliens and they can also assemble themselves into a single fighting robot.
Aside from Israelite as the film's director,"X-men: First Class" writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are on board to pen the script of the upcoming "Power Rangers."
The new "Power Rangers" movie is set to premiere in theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.
