"Mistresses" is reportedly in danger of being cancelled if the season 3 finale ratings will be its basis.
According to Carter Matt, the latest episode, titled "Goodbye Girl" received a 0.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic, an all time series-low. The publication claimed that the measly rating did not help the series' chances of getting renewed.
"Mistresses" may have a loyal following but that does not necessarily mean that the series will be renewed for a season 4. The outlet pointed out that even "Hannibal," was cancelled because of low viewership.
Last season, the producers attempted to address budget concerns by moving to a cheaper location in Vancouver. They may have lost Alyssa Milano (Savannah Davis) in the process but the showrunners believed that it was what is best for the show.
The season 3 finale may have revealed the true identity of Luca's (Noam Jenkins) killer but it also left a lot of questions unanswered. Speaking to TV Line, showrunners Rina Mimoun and K.J. Steinberg admitted that they would have given fans a different ending had they known that this will be their last season.
Although they have yet to hear from CBS executives, Mimoun shared that they remained optimistic about the show's renewal.
"I don't think we're dead in the water. But I don't know that we're not. We haven't gotten any strong indications of a renewal... but they haven't told us it's over," she explained.
Steinberg added that they have heard that the executives have not lost interest in the show. She encouraged fans to keep on supporting the series so that they may be able to continue telling the stories of their favorite mistresses.
