"Doctor Who" season 9 episode 1 set off with an explosive cliffhanger. Time Lord (Peter Capaldi) got separated from Clara (Jenna Coleman) and Missy (Michelle Gomez) when the Daleks vaporized as the episode was getting to the end, triggering an important question as to whether he will manage saving the women in episode 2.
According to the episode synopsis for "The Witch's Familiar," the Time Lord could still be far from saving his female companion and one of his all-time foes from internment.
An official synopsis from The Doctor Who Site site for episode 2 reads, "Trapped and alone in a terrifying Dalek city, the Doctor is at the heart of an evil Empire: no sonic, no TARDIS, nobody to help. With his greatest temptation before him, can the Doctor resist?"
The Doctor declined Davros' (Julian Bleach) request to save him when he was still a child in episode 1, and it appears like the Doctor's personal quest for the Daleks' creator to spare the women's lives will be disregarded. In the event he still desire seeing Clara and face Missy one more time to settle their differences, the Doctor will have to act on his own.
There also will be a big dilemma for the Doctor in episode 2 as he faces temptation. Previous spoilers established that the Time Lord will get an opportunity to kill Davros as a child. If he chooses to kill Davros, the Dalek species will never leave. However, it is unlikely that he will kill an innocent child amid possibilities of Davros causing many deaths in future.
Fans of the British sci-fi drama are already eager to see the direction of the show given that Coleman has teased that she already filmed her last scene for the series. The 29-year-old actress confirmed that she will not reprise her Clara role after season 9 because she accepted to play Queen Victoria in the new ITV drama "Victoria," BBC reported.
Unless the network gives "Doctor Who" another companion, he will be lonely in the next season.
"Doctor Who" season 9 episode 2 airs on Sept. 26, Saturday.
