Apple fans planning to grab the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus on September 25 will not only decide on what color to get but also on the storage configuration. For most, it is a choice between the 1GB model or the 64GB edition. Which is the better buy?
The basic model seems the easy choice as it retails for $199 with contract or $650 for the SIM-free variant. Going for the 64GB will mean digging deeper on the pocket for another $100. But according to ZDNet, skipping the 16GB and paying extra will prove the wiser move in the long run.
Here are the reasons why:
iOS 9 eats up internal memory
Be warned, iOS 9 like its predecessor occupies considerable disk space and by ZDNet's calculations the operating system can eat up to 4GB of memory. That would leave iPhone 6S users only less than 12GB to go by. We know that these days amount of storage space could easily run out.
16GB not friendly for new 6S features
With the iPhone 6S unboxing came a number of new exciting features such Live Photos and 12MP camera's ability to create 4K clips. However, to actually enjoy Live Photos users must be aware that one Live Photo is equivalent to two regular pics in terms of disk usage. So more Live Photos will mean the amount of free storage space will quickly dwindle.
More so for the 4K video as ZDNet estimates that a minute of 4K clip will occupy 300MB of memory. The report added that creating a 40-minute 4K video will mean that a 16GB iPhone 6S will fill up to the brim.
No more rooms for media files
As a result, iPhone users intending to transfer their extensive media files - movies and music for instance - to the iPhone 6S will see no joy. Such hoard will surely not be accommodated.
64GB iPhone 6S or higher is future-proof
Compared to the new 16GB iPhone 6S, the 32GB is certainly more future-proof as the trend, according to ZDNet, points to the arrival of big-sized applications. This is especially true for game apps that the report said will soon pack a hefty 4GB size.
64GB iPhone 6S and up offer more value
Lastly, picking the 64GB iPhone 6S or higher will give the best bang for the bucks. When one buys the iPhone 6S with 16GB of memory, he or she actually pays more than $40 per gigabyte or up to $47 if the preference is the iPhone 6S Plus, ZDNet said.
With the 64GB model, the cash damage improves to around $12 or even lower at around $7 for the 128GB variant. So the choice should be easy on what iPhone 6S to get starting Friday this week - better the 64GB but best pick is the 128GB.
