Pirate Party of Austria is running an ad campaign featuring the Minister of Interior Johanna Mikl-Leitner on YouPorn. The campaign is to make the people aware about surveillance. The campaign is being run on one of the major porn websites.
According to TorrentFreak, the Austrian Pirate Party is campaigning against the increased surveillance due to the new State Protection Act.
The Pirate Party decided to run campaign ads ahead of the elections in the Linz region. However, the Pirates chose to promote the cause on a rather unusual platform.
They started to run the ads on YouPorn, a popular porn website. "Johanna wants to watch you!" the ads read.
"We want to prevent the Orwellian dystopia - 1984 was not a guide to action. We are aware that political issues are uncommon on sites like YouPorn. But as a young party we want to seize the opportunity to break into the comfort zone of Internet users there, to address the threat of mass surveillance," Claus-Peter Wiesinger, a Pirate Party candidate said.
The campaign ads on YouPorn are in German as the target audience is Austrians. If the visitor click on the ad, they are directed to the campaign website and it has detailed tips to counter surveillance.
The Pirate Party wants people to be aware of the surveillance and vote for them so that they can fight against it.
"Strengthened by a council mandate in Linz, we want to continue our fight against the surveillance state. With 1.7% of the vote we are in," Wiesinger said.
The Pirate Party wish to continue to campaign on different porn websites like YouPorn.
