Torture tests of mobile phones often use coins, hammers, water, drops and bullets to test the strength of the gadgets. However, bendgate in 2014 proved all that was needed to show how malleable the chassis of Apple's iPhone was a back pocket and a butt.

CNET reports that Square Trade, a gadget warranty company, hired Luke Rockhold, number 1 middleweight fighter at Ultimate Fighting Championship, to see how brute human force could affect the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S.

Rockhold broke both units using his hands in seconds and feet by kicking the device held by another person until it fell into the floor, but he had difficulty with the larger devices. According to Square Trade, the iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 6S withstood 82 and 77 kilograms of pressure, respectively. It is a 50 to 60 percent improvement in bendability.

The warranty firm says the results of the torture tests is an assurance for the Cupertino-based firm that there won't be another bendgate scandal for the tech giant.

Square Trade, which sells warranties for phones, points out that the easiest way that iPhones are ruined are when it is dropped on its glassface. But Slashgear notes that the impact of the fighter's roundhouse kick was "obviously exponentially more than when you drop your phone while walking." It added that the iPhones, when bent by hand, "were no match for the superior strength of a single, well-trained athlete."
