Lyu Yueting faced court on Monday in which he was sentenced to life in prison for poisoning nine Japanese citizens and four Chinese citizens, in April 2008.

Originally arrested in Hebei province, the 37-year-old used syringes to inject poisonous substances into the frozen meat products processed in a Tianyang factory that he worked.

Prosecutors in court argued that Lyu had committed a serious crime with serious consequences, as such, Lyu shoudl receive severe punishment for his actions. 

Being a temporary employee, he was dissatisfied with his relationships with colleagues and the payment that he received for his work.

The plant which had exported the dumplings to Japan for 10 years, the revenge crime has caused irreparable damage to their business.

In Jan. 2008, the event has caused one citizen significant illness, while 12 others suffered from minor sicknesses.

Lyu was also charged with causing significant losses of property to the affected individuals.

The trial heard in Shijiazhuang Municipal Intermediate People's Court ended in the guilty verdict for life imprisonment on Monday, in the presence of officials and journalists from the Japanese embassy.
