Alexis Sánchez had been playing well for Arsenal during the past couple of games, scoring six times in three outings including a Champions League match, and appears set to lead Chile in the World Cup qualifying tournament this month.
However, during their last game against Manchester United, a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium where he scored a double, the Chilean striker left the field early in the second half in what manager Arsene Wenger explained as a "little groin problem," as reported by The Guardian.
The 65-year-old manager is reportedly in close contact with Chilean head coach Jorge Sampaoli with regards to the health status of Sánchez as to not aggravate what the Gunners' medical staff deem as only a minor injury.
Chile's team doctors have also examined the 26-year-old winger's condition and they have not ruled out the possibility of him being available in the squad's tournament opener against Brazil on Thursday, although Sampaoli is said to be leaning on sitting out Sánchez and preserving him for future matches.
Daily Mail Online indicated that Wenger is "concerned about Sánchez's fitness ahead of the international fixtures" as he expects his prized forward to continue his great form for the English club both in the domestic and Champions League competitions next week.
The Gunners are scheduled to play Watford FC in the Premier League on October 17th, then Bayern Munich three days later for a CL game.
Sánchez's Chile teammate, Arturo Vidal, is also suffering from a knee injury and is reportedly out of Sampaoli's lineup in the game against Brazil as well.
