March 21st, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Xi's wife Peng Liyuna greeted U.S. first lady Michelle Obama in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
President Xi welcomes Michelle Obama, her mother Marian Robinson and her two daughters warmly. Xi said: "I cherish the relationship and personal friendship I already established with your husband. We stay in close touch between phone conversations and correspondence."
President Xi said: "I believe China-US relations will keep advancing to the goal of the new type of relations between major nations."
Michelle Obama conveys President Obama's best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Michelle Obama said she had been impressed by her experiences during the day and expected to make more visits to China. The first lady told Chinese President Xi that she was focusing on education and student exchanges during her seven-day visit to China.
"We had an opportunity to meet with students, I tried my hand at ping pong, not so good. And our visit to the Forbidden City is one that we will never forget. Being able to see my mother, who doesn't get to travel internationally often, walk through that ancient city, and to see her excitement and wonder is a moment that I will treasure forever." Michelle Obama said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said: "It's great for you to make education the theme of your visit to China. It is our traditional virtue to respect and honor teachers. Education is related to a country's future, and young people embodies the hopes of a country."
Xi added: "China-U.S. educational exchanges are developing rapidly. Young people of both countries should broaden their vision and knowledge, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship through exchanges."
Xi's wife Peng Liyuan said China and the United States could learn from each other. She hoped more U.S. people to learn about China's long and rich history, civilization and development.
