The searchers for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 could have been searching for the ill-fated plane in the wrong area. It appears that the jet crashed in a remote Philippine jungle.
The New York Post reports that a Filipino teenager hunting for bird in Tawi island found a plane wreck in September. He discovered a fuselage full of skeleton and a Malaysian flag. Because the youth has no access to newspapers or television, he was not aware of the jet with 259 people on board had been missing since March 8, 2014.
According to 46-year-old Jamil Omar of Borneo, his nephew found a skeleton still in the pilot's seat which still had its safety belt on and communication equipment attached to the pilot's head and ears.
Most of the other skeleton in the fuselage had seatbelts. The youth got a piece of cloth from the wreckage to use as blanket. He discovered it was the Malaysian flag.
Following the discovery, local authorities in Sabah were informed. Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai asked the country's Department of Civil Aviation to look into the report and verify if the claims are true.
In August, French experts confirmed a flaperon that was discovered on Reunion Island near Madagascar is from the missing Boeing 777 aircraft bound for Beijing when it turned back to Kuala Lumpur and went missing.
However, Captain Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, commander of the Naval Task Force 61 in the Philippines, said they deployed a gunboat and interviewed people at Sugbay Island. He said the fishermen and local residents do not have any knowledge of a plane crash in the area, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
